Abstract

The paper concerns a linear stability analysis of the hydromagnetic flow instability of viscoelastic fluid in a porous medium in the presence of shear and thermodynamic buoyancy.Important results obtained in the paper include the sufficient conditions of stability, existence of oscillatory
modes, discussion for non-oscillatory modes and the bounds on the complex wave velocity of unstable modes. The conditions of stability confirms the stabilizing character of magnetic field, viscosity, viscoelasticity and destabilizing character of permeability whether the system is heated from below
or from above.
