Abstract

The present paper deals with the stochastic analysis of a two identical unit standby system model with the concept of preventive maintenance of the operative unit after some significant time which is considered to be a random variable having some probability distribution. A single repairman which appears and disappears randomly is available for carrying out the preventive maintenance and the repair of the failed units. The failure and repair times are taken to be correlated random variables having the joint distribution as bivariate exponential. The distribution of time to preventive maintenance and that of disappearance time of the repairman are taken to be exponential with different parameters whereas distribution of appearance time of the repairman is taken as general.
