Abstract

This paper deals with stochastic analysis of a two unit standby redundant system with dissimilar units - one is priority (p) unit and other is ordinary (o) unit. The p-unit gets preference in
both operation and repair. The p-unit upon first failure enters into minor repair. After minor repair the unit does not become as good as new and operates in partial failure mode with reduced efficiency
having increased failure rate. When the p-unit fails the second time it enters into major repair and major repaired unit works as good as new. A single repairman is available for both types of repair
(major and minor) of p-unit and to repair the o-unit. The random variables denoting the failure and repair times of units are independent of discrete nature having geometric distributions with different parameters. The various measures of system effectiveness are obtained by using regenerative point technique.
