Abstract

This paper presents a reliability model to predict the performance of the single-unit system operating under two different weather conditions-normal and abnormal. There is a single server who
plays the dual role of repair (on-line repair and down state repair) and inspection. Repair and inspection activities have to wait due to administrative delay or non availability of server (called arrival time
of server). The unit works with reduce capacity after repair and named as degraded unit. The inspection of the unit is carried out to reveal the possibility of on-line repair at partial failure stage and to see the feasibility of repair of the unit at degraded failure stage. The distribution of failure times and time to change weather conditions are taken as negative exponential while the distribution of inspection, arrival time of the server and repair times are considered as general. Regenerative point technique is applied to obtain several reliability characteristics of interest such as transition probabilities, mean sojourn times, mean times to system failure (MTSF), steady-state availability, busy period of the server and expected number of visits by the server. Finally, profit analysis is carried for reliability model. A particular case is also considered to depict the behavior of the results graphically.
