Abstract

In the framework of a simplified mathematical model, a technique for the control of the "path capture" and "steady descent" flight phases of the ALFLEX reentry vehicle (during its final approach and landing flight) is presented. The technique consists of successive, prescribed and quick changes of the values of the aileron and elevator angles and lead of the state parameters of the vehicle along the stable manifolds of the hyperbolic equilibrium states, corresponding to the "path capture" and "steady descent" flight phases, to these equilibrium states. The obtained results are compared to those reported in the experimental flight data.
